Sports Relief 2018

Posted: 23rd March 2018

A week of physical activity at Roydon marked Sport Relief.

All pupils at Roydon Primary Academy, got involved in a range of activities throughout the week to get active and raise awareness of the charity event.

On the sound of the claxon at various points throughout the week, pupils and teachers had to stop everything and get active for one minute. Lessons were put on hold as everyone took part in star jumps, push-ups and jogging on the spot.

The week also saw the Daily Mile launched, with every child in the school walking or running a mile – 15 times around the playground – each day.

Pupils also learned a dance routine through the week to perform at a whole school assembly.

Elaine Luscombe, PE teacher, said: “Exercise re-energises the brain as well as the body and the Daily Mile is proving to be a real success with staff and children loving it.

“On the Thursday, as well as normal PE Lessons, the Daily Mile and ‘drop everything and get active’ going on, I invited ALL STARS cricket coaches to come in and teach Year 1 and 2 cricket skills.

“The children enjoyed the week’s activities and the Daily Mile is a now a permanent event.”

On Sport Relief day, the school joined its partner schools within the Burnt Mill Academy Trust to take part in a skipping mission and kept a skipping rope moving continuously.

Our pupils raised more than £200 by paying to go into school in their sportswear.
